Ridgeback Puppy Toys
« on: December 19, 2006, 12:57 PM »
Hello all!  New members Dan & Lani here.  We're picking up our first ridgeback puppy tomorrow morning and wanted to get some suggestions for toys.  I've heard that tug of war toys are not so great ideas and that mentally challenging toys may be the best for a ridgeback.  If anyone has any suggestions for toys for an 8 week old beautiful pup... please share!  Thanks!!

Mine got all kind of toys,

plastic squeeky hot dogs through their teething stage only

big furry animals with long arms and legs so they could play tug with each other or I could hold it and let them tug, (do not tug back just let them pull, they will not pull hard enough to hurt them and not everyday)

all kinds and sizes of furry toys with squeakers

small hard pressed raw hides (through teething stage only, they can get stuck in an adult RR's intestines)

Here's a pic with Rocket and his hoard of toys.

Hope this helps

Nothing makes a day more worth it than coming home to a pack of wagging RR's and their kisses......but watch out for those tails they'll get 'cha every time.

KONGS.  Here's 'my' secret: soak some kibble in water for about 5 minutes.  Put the kibble in the kong and freeze it.  That gives the pup tons of chewing time.  Stuffed animals are also a huge hit though they're out only when I'm around to supervise.  I get them at Goodwill and remove any hard pieces like eyes and noses.  When Kodi was a puppy he played/slept with them, when he was a 5-12 months he tore out the stuffing, 12 months-on he's more into playing with them again.  Tossing them around, pouncing on them, etc.

;) Hi Michelle I love rockets pic with all his toys! Every time I see him I think of him being bottle fed - by the lookss of hi toy pile I'd say he is still babied to the enth degree! that is quite a selection, and he looks very proud of himself!

Thanks Melissa,

He is a big baby, true to runt pups, he's the biggest in the litter and he has a heart to go with his size. But he is still just a baby to me and always will be. Spending that kind of care and time with such tiny puppies does something to you. He's also a fine gentlemen, he will not get in the bed without first verifying where little tiny Sandy is and he always asks first.

I'll try and dig up his got milk picture.

Hi Rosebud ~ I would love to see him "got milk" pic

Brando had gotten into my milk the other night and we were laughing so hard at the "milk Mustache he had - if you have a photo of yours you should send it in to the "got milk ad campaign  ;D

He could be a star!  8) well a bigger star than he already is!

It is so funny how I will loose my frame of reference on how big they are. Somehow, both of them are stuck in my brain as the little puppies that we came home with, of course everyone (general public) always comment on how BIG they are ~ and it always catches me off gaurd.

I walked into our confirmation class and saw one of her sisters sitting there and my first though was look at that big ridgeback, yet mine was pretty much the same size as her sis - funny how scewed my perception can be!

I call it a got milk mustache because it's white, but it's really puppy formula.
