Bakima Imani of Sambesi Waters
« on: August 19, 2007, 09:22 AM »
23.07.2000 - 10.08.2007

Bakima was my first bitch. She was the friendliest soul I know and the happiest dog when she could run at full speed in the fields or on the racing ground.

She had the funniest flying ears and I often doubted if I should show her and breed from her. But she had a character of gold and so Bakima became the foundation bitch of my kennel Nombeko and she rewarded me with 8 wonderful puppies in 2004, of which I kept Amboni to carry on her heritage. She was a perfect mother to her pups. I'm thankful that Bakima's grandkids got to know their grandmother for a few weeks and that she showed all of them what it means to be a gentle but sovereign leader of my family of ridgebacks. I did not have one single fight in my pack during her reign and the other dogs treated her with immense respect, even in her last weak days.

She was taken from us all of a sudden after we had to learn that she had cancer and tried to save her through surgery. She was such a strong fighter, I cannot believe that she is not with us anymore...

Run free, my big brown girl

The more beautiful and rich
memory presents itself,
the harder is the parting.
But thankfulness transforms
memory to silent joy.
Carry the past beauty
not like a sting,
but like a precious gift
in yourself.

Hi Kiki,

I am so sorry for the loss of your girl - Please know that our thoughts and paryers are with you!

She was a beautiful girl and her daughter must make you proud as she looks and sounds to have taken much of her mother that she will carry on for you!

All my best,

Melissa

So sorry to hear of the loss of Bakima.  Too many of our dogs are being lost to cancer!  I am sure your pack is feeling her loss just as you are.

Beyond The Rainbow

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful -- lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.
I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
'Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.

My thoughts are with you today Kiki, I'm so sorry to hear of Bakima's passing. 7 years is far too early to lose such a beloved friend, though I hope Amboni and her young pups will carry on Bakima's beautiful spirit in the fullest - you're lucky you have them all around you.

Stay strong, be well...

I am so sorry it hurts my heart whenever someone has to say good bye to one of their precious RR's.  The boys and I will light a candle for her tonight.

Kiki, I am so very sorry for your loss.  7 is too young to lose our dogs.  I lost my first RR suddenly at age 7 due to cancer, and while trying to save him with surgery.   My thoughts are with you and your beautiful girl.

Kiki,

I am so sorry for your loss. I know it's hard when they are taken so early.

I still miss her every single day.
Today would be her 8th birthday. So I did a video to share:

And it is also the birthday of my very first litter that she gifted me with. On July 23rd 2004 8 wonderful little ridgebacks were born, one of them is my Amboni.

I Simply love this tribute to your girl!!! What a wonderful way to honor her day and the day she gave you your dear amboni so you will always have a very special place in your heart for her. This is One of my favorite songs and this melody was played every night for my son when he was a little boy  :) and to me, it represents LOVE and the love for a child. It is a wonderful melody to honor the pure love you have for Bakima.  :rose
