Beau and Finn
« on: May 03, 2008, 09:22 PM »
It was a beautiful day here in Florida and my two boys spent the majority of it out in the yard.  After chasing Beau around for over an hour, Beau decided that Finn needed to be able to actually land his prey.  Here are some photos of the two of them playing in the grass

http://www.pbase.com/deniseeb/image/98212700

And the aftermath of all that play

The aftermath is the best part. The lovely wonderful silence of a pooped pup.

I love seeing the photos of your two together, it is nice watching Finn growing up.  Thank you for sharing them.  I took some of Kumba yesterday at Stroud Reserve, we met a couple there who had a wee dog and they said there are often a couple of ridgebacks there with a person so i am going to be keeping my eye out for them.  I will see if I can figure out how to post the photos again, but anyhoo, thank you for sharing these, made my day.

Puppies seem to get caught saying "OK, well, I'll lie here for just a second before I find a more appropriate place.....SNORE".  They fall asleep almost mid-step.

At least he made it to the rug!

He has grown sooo much!!

Not sure when I will get the Toby-man to get in the picture with the pup.  Thought I had one this morning, but Toby went behind his cat tree and that was the end of pictute taking.  He certainly is not afraid of Finn.  I don't think I will ever get on eof the 3 of them unless Toby happens to have been hopped up on cat nip first  ;)

Mike.  He drops anywhere at anytime and sleeps deeply.  It's great.

Actually, Rich's boy Athos has a black muzzle. There is another male member named Luke who has a liver nosed pet. There are very few male members; or maybe we women just chat SO much more than Most of the guys, it would be easy as a new member to confuse them though....

Have you seen many Liver nosed puppies, Beth?

Beau is playing so nice with Finn.  It is great to see the big dog lay down and play so well with the little ones.  Leo grew up with a Shiht zu and she ruled the roost.  He always laid down and let her climb all over him.

yah, playing nice in that picture.  And then he gets wound up and runs around like a maniac and smacks in to the pup and nothing stops him but grabbing his collar.  They just get crazy back there in the pit.

But then there are the time he lays down and lets Finn walk all over him  It's cute

Yes I think that pit is there to stay.   :D

One thing your pictures are bringing to mind.... an RR breeder told me she had an accident when two of her dogs wrestled and one's tooth got caught in the other's collar.  She had to get a knife and cut the collar and it was a bloody mess all the way around.  So, I've started taking my dogs' collars off when they're roughhousing.  It never would have occurred to me had she not warned me, and she did so after seeing pics of my two wrestling like your's are here.  So I'll pass that one along to you too, fwiw.

I agree with taking\leaving collars off when they roughhouse.  Mine do not wear their collars at all except when we go out for a walk or out to the dog park, ect.  Its funny the way they act when they've worn their collars for a long time and you take it off, its like they're naked or something!  :D

Excellent point Susanne.  It is so easy for a dog's teeth to get caught in the collar and if you aren't right there, it can result in death.  I get particularly worried when people leave a choke chain on while their dog is off leash.  It can get caught in a branch or in another dog's mouth and the wearer can strangle all too fast.  Break away collars are the best, but I found that puppies like to chew on the catches and they don't last very long.

More of the boys playing in the yard.  That's all they want to do!!  Finn is bigger now and can hold his own for the most part - but Beau still outweighs him by 40 pounds.

I love it how pairs of RRs play, walk, and sleep together - they look so harmonious! Finn is definately ready to stand up for himself at play. Meile is still the size of Leo's head, ha ha!!! she might need to wait a minute or two before she can go into duels with Leo.

Denise, the first is my favorite.

I was looking at pictures from the first week June was here --- she was tiny, 11 pounds!!!  J.C. was literally a monster compared to her.

They grow fast, though.

June seems to be coming off her heat now (she's not so swollen), but now, this late, J.C. has decided he wants to "know" her.  Time to get another squirt bottle or three.

Cheers

Finn came to us at 10 weeks and he was already 22 pounds  :-\ - so no little tiny puppy for Beau.  And Beau is not that big  as compared to RR's nowadays.  He is actually 26.5 and 80 pounds.  He seems to be putting on those last 10 pounds his daddy's owner tells me he will gain.

So since we have had Finn 6 weeks, he has just about doubled his weight.  Yes, they grow that fast.  Mike, that picture you posted of June at her dish and JC right behind her tells the story of the size difference.  I look at that photo and it amazes me.

We have had some serious rain here in Florida.  Here are a few pics from the boys playing in the house

As you can see, Finn has his big boy teeth

BUT, we finally got to a dog park this morning and they are happily asleep after running around for an hour.

Ah yes, ridgies playing in the house....more fun for them than us!  They look very happy together.  He is growing up fast, as are they all. I hate it!  Meile is working on her big girl teeth, and looks like some kind of hillbilly with all the gaps and missing teeth!

Thanks for sharing!

That's exactly what he looks like, too - a hillbilly puppy.  With his teething, we have not really lost too much - he seems to like to chew on pens pf all things.  And my cat will push them off the table on to the floor and Finn chews them up if we don;t get to them in time  ::)

How about some Hillbilly photos?  Some of us have hillbilly in our pedigree and like to see other species with the same lot in life. ;)

Here we are at 7 months old for Finn and 18 months old for Beau.  As you can see, Finn is bigger - at least he weighs more.  He is not as tall... yet.  Poor Beau was the little runt of his litter and he barely weighs in at 70 pounds.  Finn weighs 76!!

Today, we went to a dog park, came home and then hung out in the back yard.

Beau

Finn

The 2 of them (did not use my telephoto lens on this one  ::))

Thanks for the compliments.  Yes.  Finn has passed up Beau in the weight department - but not in height yet.  I am sure that day is right around the corner.

Went to the dog park yesterday and got to play with 4 other Ridgies.  Usually Beau and Finn are the only RR's there.

Here he is after a Lab

Sadly, Finn only goes in up to his ankles.

Sog park --- sure looks like it! ;)

Nice photos.  You'd never get the terrible two into that hot lava though.

That has not helped Finn.  Beau will run in the water and Finn stops right at the edge... and the barks.

Finn almost went in toward the end of the afternoon there.  He was soooo hot and thirsty.  I went in up to my ankles and he wanted to come in, but he just would not do it.    What's funny is when Beau wants to get away from him, he just goes in the water and knows Finn won't follow.

Just keep taking him, and Finn will give in! I never would have thought Tonks would swim either, but 2 weeks after I swore she wouldn't, there she was... Must have been Dodo! Finn will one day teach Beau to hide in the water!  ;D

Had another day at the dog park.  It has finally cooled a little here in Florida and the days are just beautiful.

The boys heading to the water.  Beau will go in, Finn will not

Lots of friends

Finn only goes in up to his ankles.  He will run after a dog, right in to the water - then he realizes where he is at and he hits the brakes and runs out.

Mud, wet sand all the same.  The true "mud" is up by the dog wash areas!  You might be surprised if June and JC get around other RR's that swim and play in the water.  It's only a matter of time til Finn gets in (I think).
