Properly introducing... Maisha!
« on: June 21, 2008, 04:41 PM »
She's finally here with us  ;D  ;D  ;D

What a lovely girl she is. I am truly amazed with her personality and her level of confidence, she looks as though she is impressed and excited with every new experience. Introduction to the pack went really smoothly, but of course, not as planned. We decided to let her explore the great outdoors before to take her inside, and we brought the big ones out one by one. She doesn't seem impressed by them at all. Now she's even trying to initiate play.  ;D She's just like a RR, but extra tiny... wait, she IS an extra tiny RR. I love her to bits!

Here are a couple of pictures that were taken today... expect a few more of those in the upcoming days!

Just look at the size of her!!!

Of course, the ridge!

Sitting pretty

Standing nicely!

Check out my chest!

Uh oh... I got sand in my eyes!

Father and daughter

Argh! I have way too many pics, it's hard to choose which ones to post! I might have to get me one of those pbase accounts... RRs and photography, how well those two addictions mix!  :P

Now if you will excuse me, I've gotta go see my girl, she's outside playing now!  ;)

Thanks for letting me share!

Sonia

I adore your pictures. She is so tiny and CUTE. And is that a herniated umbilicus I see? That would make her an Outtie like my Max :).

She does have a little hernia, so does her dad. His closed up rather nicely, it is so small that by massaging it reglarly, it should hardly show when she is all grown up.  ;)

After being around her for a couple of hours, it seems Shamba has decided that he was not too impressed. He doesn't care to play daddy... he sorta growled at her when he felt she was too close to comfort. So I am keeping them at a safe distance for the time being. I am certain that he will come about in a few days and they will eventually be best buddies (in fact, he will like her a little too much, at certain periods of the year  ;))

Xena just loves her and wants to play with her. I thought for sure she would be the one not to be too impressed, given that she is old and all... Dogs, they never cease to surprise you!  :P

Sonia, some umbilical hernias are reducible - meaning you or a vet can just get them back in there! But your on the right track it could go down. I am not sure if you plan on spaying her at some point but it can easily be taken care of then if it bothers you.

We got Max when he was six and his hernia is not reducible, so its one more thing I adore on him  ;D

Here are a couple more pictures taken the day before yesterday. She hasn't grown much (in fact, she has lost weight...  :-[, she now weighs a whopping 4.76 pounds) but they grow so fast, one has to take a gazillion pictures when they are that small! Hope you like 'em!

My little queen

Just look at the size difference... amazes me every time!

Well, puppies must grow... wonder why that is, who made that rule?

Maisha is no exception, and she is growing fast. See for yourselves!

She is indeed extremely confident, doesn't seem afraid or impressed by anything, she is soooo curious. If she hears a strange noise, she has to find out what's causing it, no matter how loud. Thunderstorms and fireworks don't bother her in the least.

She also loves people, is extremely sociable and very eager to please. I think training her will be a breeze.

She is also very, I would say, modest, for a ridgeback. She will, when we're outside and she finds she is a bit tired, just lay there in the dirt and fall asleep. Maybe find a rock or piece of wood to lay her head on. But no whining for a blankie, cushion, couch or bed. THE GROUND WILL DO!

All in all, she is one adorable little ridgie and I love her to bits!

We finally took the dogs for a well deserved short vacation (well deserved for the 2 legged that spend all their free time putting up a fence for the 4 legged anyway!).

It was Maisha's first experience in the woods and I have to say I am extremely impressed with her. Hiking was not a problem, she has energy to burn. I thought it might be a little too much for such a young pup, so we took it easy, but she went up and down the mountain with incredible ease, like she'd been doing that all her life! AND she would come running to us every time we called her. Unbelievable. Knock on wood that it lasts!

She also discovered the joys of camping, the hard life, no sofas, no beds, no blankets... but wait, what's that I see? A CHAIR? Oooooh, let's see if I can fit on there...

Aaaah, now that's what I call camping!

Oh, mom's got one of those too? And she's gone  ;D I think I will try hers, see if it's better than mine...

You snooze, you loose!  :P

Of course, dad was keeping watch to make sure nothing happened to her

The other big discovery was of course water. Surprisingly, she didn't seem to hate it. She even got half wet.

Testing the water

She seemed to enjoy the beach, if we could call it that...

A few more pictures that I really like:

Oh, and good news, the dogs now officially have a fenced in yard they can call their own. It still needs a few adjustments and embellishments, but it now serves its purpose and the 4 legged family can run their hearts out.

How's that for a vacation!  ;)
