What does your Ridgeback "help" you with?
« on: July 14, 2008, 09:29 PM »
Today, Adam and I were outside working on things that needed to get done and had the dogs out with us.  The other two found something to keep themselves busy (chewing bones, investigating, playing with each other), but Griffin wanted to "help" us all afternoon.

1. He laid in front of the fence that we were trying to fix
2. Wanted to help me weed in the garden
3. Made sure he stood on the grassy area that I was to mowing next, time after time
4. Finally, he wanted to help us paint the picnic bench!

Its nice that he wants to be close and into everything that we are doing, and trust me, he is too cute while trying to help!  But a little space might be nice.

So what does your RR "help" you with?

Most of the help I get is centered around:
1)  Preparing meals
2)  Unpacking groceries
3)  Restocking the cookie jars -dog cookies, that is
4)  Washing dishes-this means licking any dishes within reach in the dishwasher
5)  Taking out the trash, ususally all over the kitchen floor
6)  Cleaning the kitchen countertops-saves me tme packing up leftovers
Oh yeah, I do get quite a bit of help with the house cleaning, especially vacuuming the floors and washing the windows.

Setting off the car alarm repeatedly to helpfully remind me that I'm shopping for far too long.

Making the bed - by the time I have it almost right, the girls have rearranged it.
Cleaning the dishes before they go into the dishwasher although I found a missed bean in the filter once.
Taking the washing out to the line - they like to get the pegs out ready for me

Beau would like to be a taste tester of every meal going in and out of the kitchen.  And just to make sure it was okay, he will lick the silverware and the dishes as they are being put in the dishwasher.

Finn thinks he needs to prune the citrus trees for me.]

And both of them believe they are helping with the yard by making sure the pit stays free of anything green.

After having cut down a tree in my garden I was cleaning up all the debris.  Being busy chucking things onto a sheat of plastic (so I could get it into the van and to the rubbish tip without too much mess), it took a while before I realised that Sali was busy (partly) behind my back, dragging everything he could get hold of off the plastic and heaping it nicely to one side.  When I told him off, he started digging a big hole where I had just put all the dirt back in the hole after the roots of the tree.

Zeta is also great help in the garden.  When I prune the roses, she keeps trying to help me by nipping off the rosebuds.

Capone moonlights as my personal trainer.  Just when I get home from a long day of work and want to be lazy, he drags me to the dog park or for a rambunctious walk. I swear I have lost weight just chasing him around the house after he grabs somethings he's not suppose to.

my dogs like to help me with groceries and laundry, e.g. they escort me back and forth between the car and the kitchen ensuring that the grocery bags are heavy enough by inserting their heads into the bag as i'm walking. and they also like to make sure i get all the laundry from the laundry basket into the washer and then out on the line. i hear they also supervise the gardener sitting on the lawn and watching everything he does. yes, my dogs are great supervisors.

Yuck is right, Angie.  Mine would like to help with that, too - however, one of them stuck their nose in the closet doorway and got whacked by the cat.  It scared them as they did not expect that.  So...  they don't mess with that closet anymore  ;D

Morgan - does Capone also help out by stealing your food to keep you nice and slim?  So selfless these dogs....
