Poll : How spoiled is your dog ?
« on: December 03, 2011, 06:54 PM »
Kinda quiet around here so how bout a few examples. Here's one of mine. We have a small outdoor curl-up kinda bed and a larger one for inside. When I get back from a good walk/run with Kona and she is whipped and the only bed on the deck is the smaller one ? She stares me down with a few well rehearsed whimpers till her big bed comes out. That's a spoiled hound  ::).

Some times, exhausted after a long day, I come downstairs with just one simple wish - to sit on our extra large, 3 person wide sofa, and enjoy a few minutes of TV....  Only to find out that Ari-the-mind-reader got there first!!

At those moments I usually have 2 thoughts:
"Good lord... do we have a spoiled dog here!"
"Those folks who don't allow their dogs on furniture may actually have a point!"

Oh, for the days when we only had one. Our living room furnishings are one armchair, one couch and a 25x48 double dog bed. Some days they are determined that the couch is theirs and we willingly lie on the bed on the floor

Sweet Boy!!!!  ;D As I type, we have a chaise occupied by 1 dog; a chair and a half by another (me on the sofa) and my poor husband is on the floor with an oversized pillow - so I can relate, but we could not be happier to share with the dogs most nights!

I'd say mine are pretty darn spoiled...up until this weekend, they slept all night in the bed with us..about 110 pounds of dog altogether.  Fiancee and I decided that the dogs needed to sleep in their own beds from now on, so we've just started that :) .  I think I spend more money at Petsmart on stuff for them than I spend on things for myself!

spoiled,
my bride allowed him in the bed while i was away on a trip.  he was 9 mo.s old.  upon my return home, my initial protestations were no match for his insistence (and my ambivalence).  while i occasionally remind my spouse who opened pandora's box, skipper will always sleep with us...i guess i don't mind so much. ;-)

Chase sleeps in my bed...under the covers. If he gets uncovered during the night he stands next to me and nuzzles my shoulder until I wake up and hold the covers up for him to climb back under. I'd say that's spoiled...or I'm trained.   :-\

Lucy is by far the best source of heat... on the increasingly cold nights... jump into bed - either my spouse or I lift our legs so she can get under the cover- she jumps under the covers and sleeps with us... nothing like putting your cold feet under 80 pounds of heat :)

As for spoiled - I've been accused of spoiling.  The way I see it - I just treat her as she is  - a loved member of this family.   I wouldn't have it any other way.  Besides - if we are honest about it - they spoil us too :)

Oh Thank you! I thought I was the only one :) cold nose in the back in the middle of the night and I automatically lift the covers so Safi can wedge herself against me under the covers.

Her other quirk is to sit there and whine if the cat has already settled onto the bed at night.. it has just been the past couple of days that she decided she would get up on the bed and snuggle up next to me anyway (and by snuggle .. I mean nearly push me out of the bed). She will goto her own bed if she gets too warm and then come back in a couple hours with another cold nose to my back .. or just sit up close and stare at me (My wife thinks that is quite funny).

I am fully trained to wake up at 5am and feed her (alarm clock or not) and she will go down eat her breakfast, go outside for morning business and then come in and go back to bed until I am ready to walk her between 6-6:30... boy I wish I was a ridgeback.

;) Chase's sister loves to snuggle in under the covers as well! She is my sweet sensative girl  :) Always close by my side and determined to stay as close as she can.

Stella will get on the bed sometimes, but is quite content on her huge dog bed from Cedar Creek most of the time. She is my social butterfly and silly girl; but she prefers to spread out and not deal with my tossing and turning at night!

The day I brought Babs home was the first time she had been away from the 6 adults and her 13 litter mates. She started crying as soon as the lights went out, so I did the only "rational" thing: put her in bed with me so I could sleep since I had a newborn baby to take care of bright and early in the morning. And there it was. HER bed. Forget the super comfy crate, or her custom bed next to mine, those were no longer an option. Now she is huge, and although her habits have changed for the most part, i still occasionally wake up with her either completely on top of me, or her next to me, under the sheets with her pony sized head on a pillow... ugh... she refuses to sleep further than 3 feet from my side of the bed. My boyfriend complains because I am a grizzly bear to wake in the morning, but I roll over and reach over to her for morning kisses... lol he's jealous of our 'inappropriate relationship" as he calls it... She follows me into the bathroom and sits on the mat when I take a shower. I know I spoil her, but she got me through a very difficult time, and I'm thankful for her. I'm OK with knowing that I spoil her, she deserves it.  ;)

Totally Hear you Leslie! We lasted almost a week trying to crate her .. then I spent almost two weeks going in her room and sleeping with her on her mat on the floor.. then really craving sleep we finally broke down and let her on he bed. Just last fall we had to upgrade to a king size because she can really sprawl.. its ok if she does it parallel (she is nice and warm at night) but crossways .. or curling up usually ends up with me sleeping on the edge of the bed :P

The good news ... I put out more heat than she does at times .. so now she spends half the night in her bed trying to cool off :) She will even goto bed in her bed if we insist ..but she will sneak back into ours around 4am. To be truthful .. she does prevent the cat from sleeping on our bed  most of the time and the cat was more annoying than she is.

That's Kona to a tee. Even looks like her. Whenever I take her in the car to run errands she's in the driver's seat like a chauffeur when I return. People who see her crack up.

Some great photos in this thread! Ridgebacks sure know how to snuggle up ;)

Hannibal is terribly spoiled :-[

He only sleeps on sheep skin beds, an I'm ashamed to admit he has 3 of them.. Soft matresses underneath ::) One in the kitchen, one in my office, and then one beside my bed. Having said that, he usually sleeps in the kitchen with the border collie because I'm a light sleeper and he has these loud dreams where he yelps and runs in his sleep - totally cute! Except when he howls and paws me in the head at 2am...hehe

Greetings, C :)

They aren't so little any more.......Lu lu went into her first heat yesterday.  I'm stuck several states away until tomorrow, but I had some help while I was gone, they ran her over too the vet and they checked her out everything is normal.
I gave the house sitters strict instructions not too let her out side without a leash.
I can't wait to get back home and vist all my little girls tomorrow!

My female RR cries at her bed (one upstairs, one down) when she wants to rest, waiting for me to cover her with a blanket (completely over her head).  If she becomes uncovered at night, she quietly walks over to my bed, bumps my face or hand with her nose, and cries until I cover her back up... so, only a little spoiled.

Brook .. so glad we are not the only ones that have to do that :) My wife is away for another week and Safi has already claimed 3/4 of the king size bed.. at least I am not sleeping on the edge for now.

Safi will wait to get covered up on her bed and then around 3am in the morning I would open my eyes to her staring at me while sitting at the bedside .. as soon as she knew I saw her .. I would get the small whine of "move over.. I want under the sheets to snuggle"

Vince .. Im convinced it's an RR trait ;) Safi does that as well .. Not only that .. She is so used to getting into my spot in bed after I get up in the morning .. She yelped at me yesterday morning because I decided to sleep for an extra 10 minutes .. soon as I got up .. she was snuggled into my spot :P
