RR Adoption Application

First, I'd like to say how happy I am to have found such a caring and active Ridgeback community.

I have a question regarding the adoption process that I hope you all might be able to help me with.

Three weeks ago, I submitted an application to adopt a female ridgeback from http://www.ridgebackrescue.org/.  Unfortunately, I have yet to hear back regarding the status of my application.  I also sent a message to my regional coordinator to give her the heads up that I had applied and to contact me if there were any further questions. 

I don't want to be pushy, but I know how emails can get backed up or forgotten.  My question is should I try calling (via phone) one of the regional coordinators on the site?  It might seem like a silly question, but I know that some people would much rather communicate via email.

I am not at all familiar with the adoption process. But I am familiar with email communication.. Some prefer it because it provides an opportunity to not respond without feeling too bad or guilty about it. I would without a doubt try to establish human contact, at least via phone. Most likely there are many applicants for each dog. If I were some sort of adoption agent in this process, I would consider those applicants who call at least more committed then those who just send an email.

By all means pick up the phone and call.  Establishing human contact should help get your application in the forefront of rescue's mind as a possible adoptor.  Keep in mind that the specific dog you are interested in might not be a suitable fit for your home but there very well could be another waiting on a home that is a good fit. Also keep in mind that due to time constraints that there are probably some dogs available that aren't even listed on the website.

Good luck and make the call.  All folks in rescue are volunteers and getting to emails aren't always their first priority.

Good advice so far
It's probably also worth mentioning that there have been a couple of major rescue situations develop in the eastern US in the past two weeks. This would have made for a very busy time for the volunteers. Contact them again. Things are beginning to settle down

George, you live in an area where there are in fact not too many rescues but often they come in from other regions and while an acknowledgement of your application would be nice, it is possible that they are trying to work things out.  I have always found a phone call to Katy works wonders.  There are several layers of coordinators too, so if you can't reach one, then try one of the others.  Otherwise, I see your parents live in Texas, you might want to contact Texas rescue as they are usually overwhelmed and you might be able to get one while you are visiting your parents.   Keep in touch and above all do not give up.

Like I said, I don't want to bother anyone, but I would enjoy getting to talk about the process with a live person.

I will keep you all posted as the my progress.  I'm very excited to join the RR owner's community.
