What changes after neutering?

Dear All,

I would be very interested in knowing what experience owners had after neutering their male RR.

Both from a physical and behavioral point of view.

What should I expect? Anything in particular that I should do?

Dexter is 14 month old and the operation will be performed in the next couple of months.

He will not change much in terms of what his true personality and temperament is, but he may mellow ever so slightly; which also happens with age, so I would not expect anything drastic.

Not a whole lot will change.  In fact immediately following surgery you won't notice any difference.  It takes a while for the sac to shrink.  The testosterone takes about six weeks to diminish.  I just had Hintza done and he is 7.  What I have noticed most is that he has reverted back to many of his puppy ways.  He likes to play again and bounces around as he did as a puppy.   However, he has put on weight, so that is something you may need to watch.

Hi Marco,

Have to echo the others. Cisko got snipped at just over 1 year. We didn't notice any real change in behavior. His recovery was easy -- he didn't even need to wear a cone since he was good about his stitches. All told it was a non-event but we did allow him to get a bit overweight so I would keep an eye on that.
