Searching for a puppy in Zambia
« on: October 27, 2006, 07:14 AM »
I live in Lusaka, Zambia and am searching for a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy.  Can anyone put me in touch with a breeder in Zambia or Zimbabwe?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the links.  I have been in touch with several breeders in South Africa, but it is going to be quite expensive to fly a pupppy from South Africa.  I would much rather drive into Zimbabwe and pick up a puppy.  Any information on breeders in Zimbabwe would be great.  Thanks for the responses.

I understand that The Parent Club is still in existence in Zimbabwe, but the RR Club of Zimbabwe is no more.  Many of the good breeders have left the country, so you might want to contact The Parent Club to see who is left.  Veterinary care is minimal these days, but responsible breeders are apparently still X-raying for hips when they can.  You could also contact Linda Costa who now lives in Australia and see if she knows anybody who is still breeding.

I expect  you know that if you drive to Zimbabwe, make sure you have enough gasoline/diesel with you to get back to Zambia.  Travel is extremely difficult due to a lack of fuel.

Just a thought, why notsee if you couldn't get one of the Kruger Park Ridgeback puppies.  Doesn't Kruger border on Zambia so transportation might not be such a problem.

I have been in constant contact with Scotty over the past month, but he is in Johannesburg and that is too far to drive.  He currently has 2 litters of 10 and 6 puppies each, but having one of his shipped to Zambia is not exactly cost-effective (VAT, DUTY, Import Fees, Shipping Fees, Rabies Concerns, etc...  It's just turning out to be a nightmare).

Kruger is a bit closer, but no one has respond to my emails.

I am aware of the Diesel situation in Zimbabwe, but Harare is not that far from the Zambian border.  I would much rather drive into Zim to get a puppy and worry about stuff at the border than deal with Customs, etc at the airport.  I just can't find any breedes in Zim on the internet.
